For more information, visit Nova Scotia Power's Commercial & Industrial Custom Program Smart Lighting ChoicesConserve Nova Scotia is helping organizations make smarter lighting choices by offsetting the cost to upgrade from regular T8 systems to High Performance T8 systems. High Performance T8s, also known as Super T8s, are now being sold in Nova Scotia. High performance T8 lighting products offer energy savings between 20 and 30% compared to regular T8 systems and up to 40% over T12s. High performance T8 lighting products offer better performance. To participate, ask your electrical contractor to specify and purchase “High Performance T8 lighting”. Under this program’s structure, purchasers will receive a premium energy efficient product at standard product cost. For more information, visit Smart Lighting Choices. ecoENERGY Retrofit Incentive for BuildingsNatural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency provides financial support to help Canadians implement energy saving projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Municipal government buildings are eligible for this program (this includes rinks, arenas, fire/police stations, recreation centres), if the building has a maximum floor space of 10,000 square meters. Buildings which are in the process of being retrofitted or have completed a retrofit in the past year are ineligible. Most energy-saving measures such as efficient lighting, building envelope, motors, controls, heating, ventilating and air conditioning are eligible, as are projects using renewable resources. Plans must consider environmental, social and economic objectives and include specific targets for environmental performance, and grants of up to $350,000 to cover half the eligible costs of feasibility studies and field tests that seek to demonstrate the potential of a project to improve the environmental effectiveness of municipal operations related to brownfields, energy, transportation, waste or water. National Community Development TrustThe Province of Nova Scotia is calling for proposals for the National Community Development Trust to aid vulnerable communities experiencing difficulties due to the impacts of globalization, the economic slowdown in the United States and the rapid appreciation in the Canadian dollar. $34.9 million is available to Nova Scotian communities over the next three years. Funding applications will be accepted until March 2011. For more information, visit Community Development Trust Fund in Nova Scotia Environment Canada's Environmental Damages Fund (EDF)This program helps ensure polluters take responsibility for their actions by giving courts a way to guarantee that the money from pollution penalties and settlements is directly invested to repair the actual harm done by the pollution. Groups who receive funding must carry out their projects in a technically feasible, scientifically-sound and cost-effective way. Municipalities are eligible to apply for funding projects that restore natural resources, preferably in the same area where the pollution occurred. This program supports municipally run projects that target reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants. It aims to help municipalities reduce their costs by building capacity around energy and emissions management, and generating a greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions reductions. $7.5 million in funding is available over 3 years for the following three project categories: Category 1: Capacity Building Corporate Grants, Category 2: Action Corporate Grants and Category 3: There is no deadline for Category 1 applications.
